Conditions are improving by the day. Weather is calm and sunny and water visibility has become much clearer. That, together with the commercial fishing ban that seems to have stopped one or 2 boats from their netting and trawling has resulted in more fish around locally.

We just finished a 5 day charter with Mr.Haki. 2 days were very quiet. Other days we had some nice catches of marlin, sailfish and mackerel. Lots of mahi are around offshore but we were concentrating on bigger stuff. Here are 2 pics taken during the last 5 days. Sailfish at the house reef, and a nice 8kg mackerel from Chumpon pinnacle.

Excellent weather continues. Zero wind and glassy seas have made fishing a real pleasure this week. Offshore has been fairly quiet although I hear that a huge marlin was lost at Chumpon pinnacle after a 3 hour fight on the 10th. Reports suggest that the fish was between 3 and 4 meters long, no idea about possible weight. Water remains quite discoloured from all the rain last week, but decent numbers of billfish are seen daily at Maehaad/Sairee bay.

We landed a big sailfish at Na Baan pinnacle yesterday mid morning. Another boat parked very close had a simultaneous hookup but their line snapped early in the fight. This was the first time we tried catching sailfish using braid line and circle hooks. The hook got caught in the fish's gill(so much for cirle hooks catching the corner of a fish's mouth). Nice sensitivity with the braid. Even when the fish was 400 meters away could still feel his movements.  Also excellent for checking the livebait. Just touching the line will confirm if it is live or dead. Much easier than winding in to check as with mono.

Weather forecast looks great until 18th, and I can accept any booking from 13th until 18th. 5,000baht/day and most likely targetting sailfish inshore.
